The Edson Project: Gutting the Kitchen!

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

In our 3rd installment of the Edson Project, Gutting the Kitchen, George will walk us through the gutted space, now ready for framing and new windows.  He’s also prepared some show and tell, with a glimpse of the tools he used when building the old kitchen back in 1969.  Take a look!

Design Tip of the Day: 3-2-10

Custom drawer base cabinet

This specially-configured base cabinet combines the best of a drawer base cabinet with a door-fronted cabinet

“One of my needs for base cabinet storage doesn’t fit with the design of a standard drawer base, nor a base cabinet with full-height doors with rollouts behind? Have a suggestion?”

Perhaps a hybrid door and drawer base cabinet like the one pictured to the right of the stove. There could be two full-width drawers, one over the other, and doors down below. Behind the doors, you could have open storage, a shelf, or even a rollout. The look also fits especially well with a period styled kitchen.

Sneak Peek – Quartersawn Oak Baker’s bench!

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

This striking piece will be seen as part of our weekly collection of “From the Cabinetmaker’s Bench” when we get back from Christmas break! Designed along the lines of a vintage baker’s bench, it is constructed from Quartersawn White Oak (1″ doors, drawer fronts and face frame) finished in our Caramel stain. It features a custom style door designed especially for this piece, side-by-side drawers and a run of handsome slats along the base of the open area. In true period style, note also the raised end panel in that same open area. Rugged 4 x 4 constructed legs anchor each corner on this solid (and heavy!) cabinetry.
