custom vanity with scoop cut

Instead of a knob or pull, consider a scoop cut to provide access to a drawer

“Looking for a different take on drawer hardware for a bathroom. Not a fan of pulls or knobs, am I out of luck?

Not necessarily. Have you considered a scoop cut? Instead of any knob or pull, a graceful curve is cut into the face of the drawer. Creates a wonderful vintage look, and solves your problem!

Consider the height of the user when determining the proper height of your vanity

“Shouldn’t the height of a bathroom vanity be 30″?

Well, excluding NBA centers and Triple Crown jockeys, the answer is “Maybe.” The 30″ height is standard, yes, but let’s think this through a bit. The sink is used from a standing position, and a comfortable working height (i.e., washing hands and face) would have the countertop height at 2-3″ below your elbow height. That means a six-foot man could comfortably use a vanity at 43″ tall! But, with multiple individuals using one vanity, a compromise would have to be reached!

So, some suggested vanity heights to consider:

  • Men: 37″ – 43″
  • Women: 32″ – 36″
  • Children: 26″ – 32″

Custom bathroom cabinetry

Soft, low-contrast color scheme helps create the illusion of more space

“My layout for my bathroom is not a huge space. Should the color of my cabinets blend with the wall color, so that the room will appear larger?”

If your goal is to create the illusion of more space, then yes, have your cabinetry and walls in light colors, perhaps with cool pastel colors for accent. The result is low contrast, and tricks the eye in your favor. The combination also works because the colors appear to recede. (Generally speaking, warmer tones seem to advance towards you)
