The homeowners of this Charlestown, New Hampshire home had never really liked their natural wood cabinets. They preferred the look of clean, crisp white cabinetry. Last year, it was time for a change, and they called upon Crown Point Cabinetry to remodel their kitchen.

“We wanted to keep our appliances,” said the homeowners when asked what was on their wish list. “We like simple, small details and wanted to incorporate green glass tiles we had seen on a cooking show.” They also wanted a way to hide items like the blender, ordinarily kept on the counter.

Charlestown Kitchen: Before.

The result is a bright, open kitchen. The new cabinetry, finished in Farrow & Ball Wimborne White, was built to accommodate the existing appliances and extends to the ceiling to make full use of the wall space. The custom cherry island sports the countertop from the original island and provides an accent point finished in Fiddletone stain. An appliance garage hides the blender and, as the homeowner had envisioned, the green glass tile makes for a stylish backsplash.

Far wall: Before.

Perhaps the most exciting transformation in this space is the previously empty wall, opposite the main kitchen.

Far wall: After!

“We entertain a lot,” said the homeowners. “We wanted to have a separate area for a wet bar and decided to utilize one entire wall, gaining pantry space in the process.”

A sink, beverage fridge and an ample black marble countertop make this an ideal prep space for entertaining. Stemware is conveniently housed behind glass doors above, and small green glass tiles placed in a unique wave pattern unify this area with the kitchen.

The homeowners shared some final thoughts:

“Crown Point Cabinetry listened to our ideas and our desire for quality with functionality. They were able to create our vision and we couldn’t be happier with the end result! Thank you!”

To which we say: “You’re very welcome, enjoy!”

This small, dated kitchen in Greenfield, New Hampshire had long worn out its welcome when the homeowner contacted Crown Point about a remodel. After waiting more than a decade, she knew it was time to go for it, and to do it right. As the day approached for her cabinetry to arrive, she was apprehensive, wondering if the wood, paint and appliance decisions would all come together. And, would an island really fit in her kitchen?

Throughout the process, her Crown Point designer, Tamara Raymond, assured her that “it will be a beautiful fit.” Today, in her own words, the homeowner lets us know how it all turned out:

The Greenfield kitchen after the installation of Crown Point Cabinetry. The kitchen is now an open and inviting space.

“I am happy to say, Tamara was absolutely right. My new Crown Point kitchen transformed the look of our home and our relationship with cooking. The room is spacious (with the removal of only one 4-foot wall), convenient (with space for everything), and serenely beautiful (my friends say zenlike).”

“I chose Crown Point’s Barnstead door style, with square inset cabinetry. The upper cabinetry is hand-brushed with Farrow & Ball’s ‘Pointing’(a neutral cream paint). For the base cabinetry, I chose Quartersawn Oak with a Mission Brown finish and Shaker style toekicks.”

The addition of an island creates more work and entertaining space.

“When the cabinetry was installed, I knew the wood/paint combination was right immediately. The light paint and clean lines of the upper cabinetry gave the small area an open feel. The warm brown of the base cabinetry made the kitchen blend beautifully with the open living and dining room areas. The addition of the island transformed the room’s flow and made entertaining guests fun!”

“Working with Crownpoint was a 5-star experience. From the original computer drawings of what our kitchen would look like to the final adjustment of each cabinet door, our needs were always carefully considered and courteously met. Everyone remarks about the solid look, fine craftsmanship, and smooth operation of our cabinets. I’ve learned, there really is no need for angst when you decide on a Crown Point kitchen. Thank you, Tamara, and everyone at Crown Point.”

You are very welcome! We hope you continue to enjoy your Crown Point kitchen!

The homeowners of this basic white kitchen knew their space was in need of a makeover. Their dream was to create an inviting, period style kitchen where they could gather together as a family-they came to the right place! Crown Point designer Peter Ippedico guided them in the cabinetry design and layout of the transformed kitchen pictured in the “after” shot below.

Frameless Quartersawn Red Oak cabinetry gives the space warmth and timeless character, and the contrasting island provides a pop of color.

Frameless cabinetry in Quartersawn Red Oak warms up the kitchen, creating an inviting space for guests and chefs alike. The light blue island incorporates a burst of understated color, while also providing ample workspace in the center of the room. Design details such as true lite muntin doors, beadboard and decorative moulding provide the period style charm they were looking for.

In their own words, the homeowners let us know just how much they love their new kitchen:

“Thanks for rescuing us from a very close call with mediocre cabinetry. We knew our kitchen would be beautiful once we saw the sample door, but the finished product exceeded our expectations. The Crown Point cabinets really look like they belong in our old farmhouse. We could not have gotten this period look with the other brands we were considering. It’s nice too that I can store my heavy pots and 50-lb flour bins in the cabinets instead of on the floor or in a closet.”

“You can also add me to the 99% of people who love their trash pull-out. Thanks for talking me into it. The dishwasher panel and hutch-like cabinetry between the refrigerator and wall oven also turned out well. The whole layout is just great. It definitely makes the best use of our space. Thanks again!”

Crown Point Cabinetry has long been known as the premier custom cabinetmaker for period style kitchens. More recently, we’ve delved into the world of frameless cabinetry for our clients looking for a clean, contemporary look. But what about those who want a touch of vintage style, and also long for a modern feel?

The answer is Crown Point’s Transitional line; a beautiful blending of both vintage and contemporary elements to create the perfect look for any style home.

Fred Puksta, the Product Designer here at Crown Point, spearheaded the development of this line, even using his own kitchen as the prototype (the resulting masterpiece is pictured above).

“We wanted to introduce a totally customizable line that allowed for the modular substitution of design components to create a kitchen unique to the individual,” said Fred of the new line. “It would be contemporary frameless construction with the option of adding vintage details such as valances, doors and feet, influenced by Victorian, Cottage, Arts & Crafts, Shaker and Early American styles.”

After months of designing, installing, uninstalling, redesigning and final installation, the Transitional Line was born! For more details, and to check out our offerings in this line, visit our New Transitional page!

Fred was recently interviewed on this subject for a story on HGTV.com. His tips and tricks to achieving the look can be found in “Guide to Creating a Transitional Kitchen.”

Because we love before pictures, below is a shot of Fred’s kitchen before it was revamped! Wow!

There’s no greater satisfaction when completing a project than taking a look at the before picture and realizing how far you’ve come. Today, we’re sharing some before and after shots from a client in Wisconsin who recently remodeled her century-old period style home.

Before

Original to the home, this Light Grey Tennessee Marble sink was very important to the homeowner. She wanted to preserve its 100-year presence in the home by incorporating it into the new kitchen design.

After

Crown Point kitchen designer Christine Dunleavy was up to the task (piece of cake!) and worked with the homeowner to integrate the sink in a Victorian inspired kitchen with custom cabinetry in Steeple White.

Before

On an adjacent wall, cabinetry between the door and window offered a good deal of storage, but lacked counter space.

After

By eliminating the soffit, Christine made room for a fully integrated refrigerator with cabinet space above. And, she was able to raise the wall cabinet, creating counter space ideal for the microwave oven. Additional counter space was added in the form of a dropped baking center, built in below the window, with views of the backyard.

“I appreciate Christine’s design skills every time I use my kitchen,” said the homeowner. “It’s so easy to work in, and it looks great too!”
